Prime and Composite Numbers

Getting ready for our state assessment (STAAR) retakes. Time to review prime vs. composite numbers!

I found a FREE quiz, but I'm actually thinking it might be a better to use it as a set of notes and do it together with a little "WE do then YOU do." Grab it for FREE right here.

Multiple opportunities to practice. This site has a worksheet creater where you can set your guidelines and it will generate prime number mazes. So cool! Click right HURRR to get started :) TeachersPayTeachers has some cute mystery art pages but they cost $. Our PTA bought me a subscription to SuperTeacherWorksheets which I LOVE. They have several practice pages.




And don't forget! There's a Brain Pop video on it :)


On the second day of review, I plan on doing this activity found over at Rundes Room. My boards aren't magnetic (I know, I know, it's 2013! Get with it, school district! lol) so I'm going to use random number cards from a math game that I have. You could also use post its!


For the computer station there are a few choices for games. The first is Prime and Composite FRUIT SHOOT! We LOVE the Fruit Shoot games. The other can be used if your district has an IXL.com subscription. IXL has prime and composite practice on multiple levels. My kids will be doing Level F A.5

Last, but definitly not least, you MUST check out one of my previous entries on factorization. I have a video that shows how to teach it. The video isn't one that you would show your students probably, it's a quick video that will show you the best way to list ALL the factors of a number.  Click HERE to check it out!

Angles!

Bloggging's been a little slow lately with all the big state standardized testing. But I've got a little time to catch up now :)

First off, I'd like to tell  you the index card technique for identifying angles.Take an ordinary index card and put the corner into the angle. If the lines line up with the edges of the card, it's a right angle. If the line is covered by the card, it's an acute, and so on.

A little change :)

Bringing in some Christian resources to my blog. I hope you enjoy! In the few short hours since I've made a few products I've had an insanely awesome response. Thank you for supporting me as I bring my love of teaching together with my love of teaching the word!

The first is a huge set on the Holy Week (Palm Sunday to Easter). Thirteen cards tell the story with pictures and bible verses. They are numbered for easy sequencing. An ADDITIONAL thirteen cards are included with discussion questions that correlate with the cards. Bright colors :)

Menus for the Computer Station- Math!

A few ideas for the computer station. Favorite these on your student computers under a unit name or month folder.

I promise I will only show you one resource that isn't free. Our district pays for IXL.com. I LOVE this website. It has a level for each grade and over 200 tasks for each level. Students earn virtual rewards. Most programs just put you through a process, but IXL is task specific. If we are working on multiplication word problems, I pick the multiplication word problem task. Get it? Love it. I can pull reports with their information.


And on to the free ones! Visit these sites, bookmark a few games each, and you will have a fun menu for your learner to choose from!


Fun4thebrain.com has AWESOME math and reading games. We love Diaper Derby, Lucy's Closet, and Alien Lunchtime. The math games are limited to calculation, however there are lots of games to choose from.

Has games for multiple subjects. We love several of the games but they really enjoy the Math Man, Fruit Shoot, and Monkey Drive games. Math Man is in several of the different units in math and is kinda like Pac Man. We recently used the Math Man for converting improper fractions. There's several of the Math Man games. Fruit shoot will give skill practice. Kinda reminds me of fruit ninja! When you shoot the right fruit, it explodes!

Beyond Pencil and Paper

Kids getting tired of the same ol' pencil and paper practice? Grab a few dry erase markers and try these.

Have kids write directly on their desk or the teach table with dry erase markers.


Buy inexpensive plastic plates for wipe off practice! From LearningPavillion.com


Or if  you're feelin' fancy, ask your school or PTA to purchase these Smart Pals. They aren't cheap, but they are highly durable. I put them on a wish list a year ago and was SO excited when they came in. I keep a folder of our often used templates such as long division or ELA graphic organizers.
