Multiplication Task Cards! 2 digit by 1 digit
My task cards have been doing so well! I've decided to respond to the requests for multiplication cards. I have made some 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication cards. These are dinosaur themed and like all my cards, labeled alphabetically for easy grading. Click HERE to download. Enjoy!

Factorization Using a UT Chart
I've taught factorization before and used every method under the sun. This year I used the UT chart method with great success! My coworkers call it a TU chart, but I switched it to UT. The reason is, we're in Texas and the UT Longhorns are a big deal around here! I made a fancy football chart for the board and created this video to show you how to teach factorization using the UT chart. Love it!
My students have been busy practicing this skill exactly the way I showed it in the video. They have to list the factors under each chart, write "Factors of x!" and as we progressed, they wrote if the number is prime or composite. Our page was folded into eigths and looked like this:

Math Facts- Preteach Factorization
Kicking off our week of pre-teaching factorization is my favorite topic, MATH FACTS!
We could not do what we do without math facts. Factorization is not kind to those who do not know their basic multiplication and division facts. This is no small feat in a special education classroom. To hone our skills we've been working hard.
Find a mnuemonic! We've grabbed this amazing FREEBIE over at GingerSnaps. My students absolutely love singing jingle bells to memorize the multiples of 3. I made one to laminate and hang in my classroom. I also printed a copy for them to keep in their binders. Grab this FREEBIE at top blog, GingerSnaps!

Finding Factors- PreTeach
Most blogs have their posts down to a single idea for a topic. As this blog progresses and I find my groove, I've found it so much more beneficial to create a posts that shows what I actually do. Show a day in a week long topic. I'm here for you, and I feel like this is a way to make a bigger impact.
We are in day 4 of prime and composite numbers and it has been going GREAT! I say this with great enthusiasm. It's been like a, "Can I get a wha wha?!" kind of week. I've learned so many solutions this year and want to share. I can't wait to unload all of the cool stuff we've been doing. I'm going to share all of the stuff that should be going on prior to teaching prime and composite numbers.
In a special education classroom, you will most likely find learners with long term retrieval issues. I'm spending about 30 minutes out of every math day working on this underlying stuff. I attribute our success this week to making sure we've taken the time to fill in gaps and sharpen our skills.
